Fertilization Recommendations

Olive tree

The olive tree requires balanced nutrition throughout the year, with emphasis on supporting fruiting, drought tolerance, and oil quality.

1. Base Fertilization (Autumn – Winter)

Period: October – December
Fertilizer Type: Granular NPK (e.g. 15-15-15 or 20-10-10) with sulfur and potassium
Dosage: 40–60 kg/acre
Purpose: Replenish nutrients after harvest and prepare the tree for new growth.

2. Nitrogen Fertilization (Early Spring)

Period: February – March
Fertilizer Type: Urea or ammonium nitrogen form (stabilized preferred)
Dosage: 15–20 kg/acre
Purpose: Support new vegetative growth and flowering.

3. Fertilization During Fruit Set

Period: April – May
Fertilizer Type: Nitrate nitrogen with potassium (e.g. potassium sulfate)
Dosage: 10–15 kg/acre
Purpose: Enhance fruit size and quality.

4. Final Fertilization (Summer)

Period: June – July
Fertilizer Type: High potassium (e.g. 0-0-50)
Dosage: 10–15 kg/acre
Purpose: Improve stress tolerance and oil quality.

Supplementary Foliar Nutrition

  • Water-soluble NPK fertilizers (e.g. 20-20-20)
  • Micronutrients (Boron, Zinc, Iron)
  • Application of foliar sprays at critical growth stages

Tips:

  • Potassium is critical for oil quality and drought tolerance.
  • Boron (B) helps with fruit set and fruit development.
  • Regular soil and leaf analysis optimizes the fertilization program.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen use, especially close to harvest.
